Lettuce & Komatsuna!

April 20th, 2011

10:12pm, 74°F, Fair
First off, I am absolutely loving this warmer weather. Today, working out in the garden center at my job, I was actually almost too warm, but that was fine by me! And then I ate ice cream with my coworker which made it even better. But that’s besides the point.
I meant to post [...]

I see leaves…

April 18th, 2011

9:18pm, 58°F, Cloudy
I had a busy weekend, and then today I worked a 9 hour day, so there really hasn’t been too much going on in balcony-land. However, a quick look earlier revealed some seedlings coming up in the pot with the lettuce and komatsuna seeds. Fingers crossed that it is, indeed, one of the [...]

Mmm, lettuce

7:45am, 75°F, plants are outside
Well,  I had my first home-grown salad!

It was delightful. Put a little oil and vinegar on it, and salt and pepper… yum. And so much more satisfying, knowing I grew it myself.

In unhappy [...]

Delightful Lettuce

May 25th, 2010

8:05am, 67ºF, plants are outside

I will eat you soon, tasty lettuces.
It’s a loose leaf variety, so it won’t form a head. I figured that this would be better for container gardening. I might start sowing more seeds, too… a book I’ve been [...]

8:15am, 50°F, rainy. Plants are outside.
Today is an icky, rainy day and I don’t want to go to work. Working in a garden center is no fun when the weather is crappy– there is only so much stuff you can find to do inside. Bleh. But I’m hoping this rain will be good for all [...]

1:05pm, 51°F, overcast, light drizzle. All plants in except lettuce & some morning glory.

I checked over the plants today, peering extra-hard into the empty-looking pots where I’d planted seeds, around April 8th or so. Squash pot? Nothing. Tomato seeds? No sign of ‘em. Forget-me-not? Just dirt. Pots where I’d put bulbs were also empty [...]

11:05pm, 51°F, plants (except for lettuce) stayed inside as I was gone for the day.
I spoke last about my dollar store find of 4 seed packets for $1. In addition to the tomato seeds, I’d gotten another packet of seeds I’d never tried growing before—lettuce. Specifically, a “Grand Rapids” variety. Grand Rapids is a leaf [...]
